A hard lession

During this engine build I had to move to a new home. In the process I misplaced the piston oilers. Let me tell you. YOU DON’T WANT TO LOSE THEM!! I called ford and they said not available anymore. They told me to look in the junk yard. My buddy and I went junk yarding and found some IDI’s. We spent the day pulling engines and we found that most IDI’s have pressed-in oilers. My oilers are bolt-in. Man all the machining on the block for nothing. Well I call International Harvester and they said Yea we have 100 bolt-in left. We ran down and I said I’ll take 8. The guy charged me 58.00 bucks and 30.00 for 2nd day air. I waited the two days and went to get my parts. The service guy hands me one, Great where are the rest? Oh, we only charged you for one. Are you kidding me! 58.00 bucks each, plus shipping! I left pissed. I started calling every Ford dealer in the US and Canada.  I found the last 8 Ford had. Oh the price 9.80 each plus shipping. Both Ford service reps said they had been sitting on the shelf from 1986. Thanks you!! There is a difference on the ends. The Ford ones have a tapered end and the ends are squeezed down a little and the IH are just curved. So keep the oilers close at hand. I hope I find my old ones.

The Press-in is the most common. IH said they have 80 in stock and you need a special tool to put them in.  They don’t sell the tool and Ford doesn’t have any as well.
